The Anniversary Update! - 1.7

Welcome to the Anniversary Update!

On the 8th September, 2018, I released Dash Dodge 1.0 to the world! It didn't look great or have many features (no level editor!) but it grew into what Dash Dodge is today. Let's take a look at the latest features.

New Themes

I've introduced 2 new themes to Dash Dodge this update:

  • Inverted
    • The classic Dash Dodge theme, with its colours inverted to give your levels a clean look.

  • Unloaded
    • It may seem like a glitch, but this theme is 100% handcrafted to make you go insane!

New Audio

I've introduced two new audio styles in this update:

  • Original
    • The original music will take you back to the days of Dash Dodge 1.0, quite fitting for the anniversary update!
  • Atmospheric Chill
    • The unique blend of piano and percussion will bring relaxation to your levels.

Check the new themes and audio out in the level editor!

New Features

  • A new progress bar is displayed in-game so you can tell where you are in a level, and how far is left! (shown below)
  • A unified settings page brings together volume, potato mode and resolution settings so you can change settings with ease any time. (shown below)
  • A new icon will display what you are currently placing in the editor, so you can build with confidence! (shown in the editor screenshots above)

Other Features

  • Menu text has been simplified an animations in the UI have been made much more snappy.
  • The game doesn't freeze any more when switching between UI screens.
  • Your volume level is now saved when the game is closed.

Update System

In Dash Dodge 1.5, I introduced a cloud update system which updated the game's resources; blocks, themes (to a limited extent) and audio styles. Unfortunately, if I wanted to add any advanced features, I'd need to update the core game and you'd need to download this from the website manually. Now, I've retired this system and replaced it with a fully automatic updater! The improved system checks for updates on launch, displays the changelog and asks if you'd like to update now, or later. After downloading, the installer is launched and the whole game gets updated - no need to download it from the website. This should streamline the update process and I'll be able to add many more advanced features with ease.

Bugfixes

Fixed a bug where themes may not change when a level was re-opened.
